Smalley is a village in Derbyshire 6 miles north-east from Derby;
4 miles south-west from Belper, and 10 miles west across the border from Nottingham.

This study began as the direct result of my search for the birth place
of my maternal grandmother Kate Carrington.
Having discovered generations of her ancestors in Smalley, I became interested in the many other generations
of people who had lived there. This led me to look at the background
of the place where so many families lived, worked and died.
Over time I hope to have Baptisms, Marriages and Burials transcribed from the Parish Registers; Census transcriptions; Trade Directories; maps and photographs - past and present,
and items of local history.
There will also be links to my Carrington family history; related lines, and other Smalley families.

SOURCES & COPYRIGHT
Material for this site has come from a variety of sources;
these sources are mainly identified on the individual pages. Transcripts of copyrighted material
appear courtesy of the copyright holders and are individually acknowledged.
I am responsible for most of the transcribing and indexing and will take responsibilty
for any errors. As far as possible, I assume them to be correct but as with all transcribing, errors do happen.
So please verify any data for yourself, with the original source.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This site would not be possible without the valuable contributions of many people
who have given material, ideas and a great deal of help. Without the generosity of
other researchers, who gave their data so readily, this site would be far less than it is.
I hope I have acknowledged all of these contributions but, if I have omitted anyone,
I will be happy to correct this.
Particular thanks must go to Gordon for his unstinting help; also to Brett, and the
One-Place-Study List members, for their unfailing support and encouragement.
