Apply for a copy birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate

Please note:  We only hold records for events which took place in Gloucestershire. Not all areas with a Gloucestershire postal address or a GL postcode are within the Gloucestershire registration district due to boundary changes.  Please click here before placing your order.  If you need a copy of a certificate for an event outside of Gloucestershire or a copy of an adoption certificate, please use the related links. They are on the right of this page if you are on a PC / Laptop and at the bottom of this page if you are using a tablet / smartphone.

You can order:

  • A full birth, marriage/civil partnership or death certificate for £11.00 to be dispatched within 7 calendar days. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 2nd class delivery service.
  • A short birth certificate for £11.00 to be dispatched within 7 calendar days. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 2nd class delivery service. Please note this does not include details of the parents and not accepted by passport offices or other organisations.
  • A priority service copy of any certificate for £35 to be dispatched within 24 hours of receipt. Certificates will be sent via Royal Mail 1st Class delivery service which aims to deliver on the next working day (including Saturdays)  Please note this service is not available at weekends or on Bank Holidays.

All certificates must be paid for before we issue them.  Gloucestershire Registration Service is not liable for any certificates that are delayed or lost in the post.

There is an option to request collection from Gloucestershire Registration Service based with Gloucestershire Heritage Hub, Clarence Row, Alvin Street, Gloucester GL1 3DW at the time of ordering.  You will be then contacted by the Copy Certificates Team when the certificate is ready for collection. Your certificate will be posted to the address on your application if not collected within 10 days of receiving your notification email.

If you experience any difficulties when applying for a certificate, please could you try the following before contacting us:

  • Ensure you have a good internet signal – please note network congestions can occur especially during peak times leading to slower data speeds and dropped connections. Other factors include physical obstructions such as buildings and trees.  Weather conditions such as heavy rain, thunderstorms and snowstorms can affect signal transmissions.
  • If you have an Apple Device, please ensure you are not running a BETA test version.
  • Please attempt the form later in the day, if possible in a different location – e.g. somewhere with Wi-Fi rather than using mobile data.
  • During online transactions, if the communication between our system and  your bank’s authorisation system takes too long, the transaction may time out and the payment and your order may not have gone through.  In this case, please try at a later time.
  • Please note the certificate order process has a time limit of 15 minutes to complete the application and make payment.  Please ensure you have completed your order within this timeframe.
