Birth, marriage or death certificate searches and copies

Births, Deaths and Marriages only started being recorded by the government in 1837 – this is known as Civil Registration. We hold records of most of the births that have occurred in the Rhondda Cynon Taf since that time.

We can only issue copy birth certificates if we hold the register containing the original entry. If not, you must apply to the register office that holds the original record. 

All Applications MUST be applied for over the Telephone. For family History Certificates, please email us on registrar@rctcbc.gov.uk with all the details.

Cost

Standard Certificate of Birth, Marriage or Death - shows all the details entered in the register.

  • Issued by: Superintendent Registrar within 15 days of application recieved- £11.00 
  • Payments by debit/credit card: £11
  • Piority Service, within 24 hours upon receipt of application: £35

Short Birth Certificate - shows only the name, gender and date of birth.

  • Issued by: Superintendent Registrar - £11
  • Same day priority service: £35

Note: Full certificates are available from the registrar at a cost of £11 per certificate at the time of registration, or shortly afterwards at a cost of £11 per certificate issued within 15 days of receipt of application, or Priority Service £35 certificate issued within 24 hours of receipt of application. Once a register is full it is passed to the Superintendent Registrar and certificates are no longer available from the Registrar.

Postal applications

All cheque or Postal orders should be made payable to Superintendent Registrar.

All postal applications costs £11 with certificates being issued within 15 days of receipt of application per certificate applied for and should be sent to the address below;
