REGISTRATION DISTRICTS IN HERTFORDSHIRE

The list below shows the civil registration districts in Hertfordshire since 1837. The same districts were used to compile the census returns for the years 1851 to 1911.

For the purposes of these pages, "Hertfordshire " refers to:

the ancient county of Hertford (1837-89)
the administrative county of Hertford (1889-1974)
the non-metropolitan county of Hertfordshire (from 1974).

Broxbourne	Hertfordshire	1974	2008	Created 1.4.1974 out of Ware registration district. Abolished 1.4.2008 to become part of Hertfordshire registration district.
Buntingford	Hertfordshire	1837	1838	Abolished 15.1.1838 to become part of Royston registration district.
Dacorum	Hertfordshire	1974	2008	Created 1.4.1974 out of Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, Watford, and St. Albans registration districts. Abolished 1.4.2008 to become part of Hertfordshire registration district.
Edmonton	Middlesex	1837	1939	Partly in Hertfordshire until 1.10.1939.
Elstree & Potters Bar	Hertfordshire	1965	1996	Created 1.4.1965 out of Barnet and Wood Green registration districts. Abolished 1.3.1996 to become part of Watford registration district.
Hatfield	Hertfordshire	1837	2008	Abolished 1.4.2008 to become part of Hertfordshire registration district.
Hemel Hempstead	Hertfordshire	1837	1974	Abolished 1.4.1974 to become part of Dacorum registration district.
