REGISTRATION DISTRICTS IN LEICESTERSHIRE

The list below shows the civil registration districts in Leicestershire since 1837. The same districts were used to compile the census returns for the years 1851 to 1911.

For the purposes of these pages, "Leicestershire" refers to:

the ancient county of Leicester (1837-89)
the administrative county of Leicester (1889-1974), with the county borough of Leicester.
the non-metropolitan county of Leicestershire (from 1974), with the unitary authority of Leicester (from 1997).
